What most people don’t realize, is that there are programs not only by the government, but also by the state of programs which provide money for single mothers who are trying to make ends meat.
Part of the battle is just trying to get what is due your child through court orders by means of child support. The true but sad part is that only about 15% of women are awarded a spousal support case through the court system each year, and out of that fifteen percent, about 34% of those women are actually given what is due to them to help their children.
However, did you know that there are 900 grant programs offered by some 26 Federal grant-making agencies which give women the money they need to succeed as a single parent? Below are listed the various programs that are broken down into categories.
- Education
- Business and Commerce
- Agriculture
- Arts
- Community Development
- Disaster Prevention and Relief
- Employment, Labor, and Training
- Environmental Quality
- Food and Nutrition
- Health
- Housing
- Humanities
- Law, Justice, and Legal Services
- Natural Resources
- Regional Development
- Science and Technology
- Social Services and Income Security
If you are a US citizen, or a foreign national who has resided in the USA for at least 3 years then you are eligible to apply for one of these grants.
There are very specific steps and guidelines for preparing for one of these grants by the governments, so you will want to pay special attention to the rules involved. This may be a great opportunity for a single mom to either get out of debt, or get a grant that will help her succeed in the working field, and make a better life for herself and for her child or children.
You can find the resource to apply and look over these Government money grants for single mothers at the following locations:
http://www.grants.gov/ – This one lists the some 900 grant programs out there.
http://www.neh.gov/ – This one explains how the system works and answers lots of questions you may have.
Remember, just because you are a single parent, life doesn’t have to be as hard without assistance. These Government aids for single moms are in place to provide the assistance needed for women to succeed. There is no shame in getting help when a spouse who has the responsibility to do so does not. Also remember that the sources listed above are not the only ones. There are other local state programs for single moms as well which we will be finding and listing state by state for you in our other articles.
